Why Does Quran Say "We & He"?

Why does the Quran use "WE" and "HE" in Quran when referring to God (Allah)?

█ Allah = Has no gender (not male and not female)

► "He" is used only out of respect and dignity - not for gender

█ Allah = Always singular - Never plural

► "We" is used only as the "Royal WE" just as in English for royalty

█ Allah =Means "The Only One to be Worshipped"

► The Qur’an says very clearly that there is only One God, Allah. “There is no god but Allah” is the basic principle of Islam. There is no ambiguity about this fact in the Qur’an and there are hundreds of ayat or verses of the Qur’an that make this point very clear. Belief in more than one God is Shirk (polytheism) and a major sin according to the Qur’an.

Whenever in the Qur’an Allah is mentioned in the third person there are always singular pronouns used, such as He, him (Huwa or Hu). Whenever Allah is spoken to in the second person there are also singular pronouns, such as Thou, Thine and Thee (Anta, Ka). However only in the first person some times the pronouns I, My or Mine (Ana, Iyaya, ya) are used and sometimes We, Us and Our (Nahnu, Na) are used.

This is a style of speech. Sometime the speaker says I and sometime says we. We also use that in our conversations. In the Qur’an you will see that often the first person singular such as I or My is used, when Allah speaks about His love, care and closeness and forgiveness for His servants. In a similar way the first person plural is often used when Allah speaks about His power, majesty, glory, great deeds or when He speaks about His anger and wrath for the sinners and criminals. (This is, of course, the general use. Sometime the reverse is also the case, depending on the context of the Surah.)

See for example the verses where the first person singular is used: “When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: let them also, with a will, listen to My call, and believe in Me: that they may walk in the right way.” (al-Baqarah 2:186) Or “Verily, I am Allah: there is no god but I: so serve thou Me (only), and establish regular prayer for celebrating My praise.” (Taha 20:14) or “But, without doubt, I am (also) He that forgives again and again, to those who repent, believe, and do right, who, in fine, are ready to receive true guidance.” (Taha 20:82) or see another example where both pronouns are used side by side, “Before them the People of Noah rejected (their Messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, “Here is one possessed!” and he was driven out. Then he called on His Lord: “I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!” So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fiber: She floats under Our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? (al-Qamar 54:9-16)

See also some verses where the first person plural is used: “We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).” (al-Hijr 15:9) or “We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming” (al-Hijr 15:85) or “And among His Signs is this: thou seest the earth barren and desolate; but when We send down rain to it, it is stirred to life and yields increase. Truly, He Who gives life to the (dead) earth can surely give life to (men) who are dead. For He has power over all things.” (Fussilat 41:39). Or “Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to Our Servants sent (by Us). That they would certainly be assisted. And that Our forces, they surely must conquer. So turn thou away from them for a little while. And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see. Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not) (al-Saffat 37:171-177). There are many other examples.

Christian writers in their desperate desire to prove their doctrine of Trinity have sometime interpreted some Biblical passages where first person plural is used to suggest that this means the “Divine Trinity”. For example in the Bible it is mentioned, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image¦” (Genesis 1:26). Christian writers contend that this means that there is plurality in God (We seek Allah’s forgiveness for mentioning this blasphemy.) Sometime Christian missionaries also go to simple Muslims and try to confuse them by taking some verses from the Qur’an and tell them that the Qur’an also supports such doctrines. I tried to explain this point in some detail, because I have often heard this type of questions from some Christians.

►The term "We" in the Quran is the royal "We" - as an example when the king says, "We decree the following declaration, etc." or, "We are not amused." It does not indicate plural; rather it displays the highest position in the language. English, Persian, Hebrew, Arabic and many languages provide for the usage of "We" for the royal figure. It is helpful to note the same dignity is given to the person being spoken to in English. We say to someone, "You ARE my friend." Yet the person is only one person standing there. Why did we say "ARE" instead of "IS"? The noun "you" is singular and should therefore be associated with a singular verb for the state of being, yet we say, "are." The same is true for the speaker when referring to himself or herself. We say, "I am" and this is also in the royal plural, instead of saying, "I is."

When Allah uses the term "HE" in Quran it is similar to the above answer. The word "He" is used when referring to Allah out of respect, dignity and high status. It would be totally inappropriate to use the word "it" and would not convey the proper understanding of Allah being who Allah is; Alive, Compassionate, Forgiving, Patient, Loving, & much more. It is not correct to associate the word "He" with gender, as this would be comparing Allah to the creation, something totally against the teaching of Quran.

مسلمانوں کو اس بات کا بطورِ خاص اہتمام کرنا چاہئے کہ مستند علمائ اور اکابر اہل ِ حق کے علاوہ کسی عام آدمی کو درس و تدریس کی مسند پر نہ بیٹھنے دیں اور نہ ہی اس کے حلقہ درس میں بیٹھیں، کیونکہ حجة الاسلام امام غزالی فرماتے ہیں کہ: ” عوام کا فرض ہے کہ ایمان اور اسلام لاکر اپنی عبادتوں اور روزگار میں مشغول رہیں ،علم کی باتوں میں مداخلت نہ کریں۔ اس کو علمائ کے حوالے کردیں۔عامی شخص کا علمی سلسلہ میں حجت کرنا زنا اور چوری سے بھی زیادہ نقصان دہ اور خطرناک ہے، کیونکہ جو شخص دینی علوم میں بصیرت اور پختگی نہیںر کھتا وہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ اور اس کے دین کے مسائل میں بحث کرتا ہے تو بہت ممکن ہے کہ وہ ایسی رائے قائم کرے جو کفر ہو اور اس کو اس کا احساس بھی نہ ہو کہ جو اس نے سمجھا ہے وہ کفر ہے، اس کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جو تیرنا نہ جانتا ہو اور سمندر میں کود پڑے۔“ (احیاءالعلوم، ص:۶۳، ج:۳) لہٰذا غیر مستند حضرات دین و مذہب میں دخل نہ دیں اور نہ ہی درس قرآن کی مسندوں پر بیٹھنے کی کوشش کریں،آج کل یہ فتنہ قریب قریب عام ہو رہا ہے کہ ہرجاہل وعامی محض اردو کتب اور تراجم کی مدد سے درس قرآن دینے لگا ہے، جبکہ یہ بہت ہی خطرناک ہے۔ اس سے دینی، مذہبی اور علمی اعتبار سے نوجوان نسل بہت ہی اضطراب کاشکار ہو رہی ہے، کیونکہ وہ دین و مذہب کے بارہ میں علما ¿ سے کچھ سنتے ہیں تو جدید اسکالروں سے کچھ اور،لہٰذا وہ اس کشمکش میں مبتلا ہوجاتے ہیں کہ صحیح کیا ہے اور غلط کیا؟

” عوام کا فرض ہے کہ ایمان اور اسلام لاکر اپنی عبادتوں اور روزگار میں مشغول رہیں ،علم کی باتوں میں مداخلت نہ کریں۔ اس کو علمائ کے حوالے کردیں۔عامی شخص کا علمی سلسلہ میں حجت کرنا زنا اور چوری سے بھی زیادہ نقصان دہ اور خطرناک ہے، کیونکہ جو شخص دینی علوم میں بصیرت اور پختگی نہیںر کھتا وہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ اور اس کے دین کے مسائل میں بحث کرتا ہے تو بہت ممکن ہے کہ وہ ایسی رائے قائم کرے جو کفر ہو اور اس کو اس کا احساس بھی نہ ہو کہ جو اس نے سمجھا ہے وہ کفر ہے، اس کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جو تیرنا نہ جانتا ہو اور سمندر میں کود پڑے۔“ (احیاءالعلوم، ص:۶۳، ج:۳)


لہٰذا غیر مستند حضرات دین و مذہب میں دخل نہ دیں اور نہ ہی درس قرآن کی مسندوں پر بیٹھنے کی کوشش کریں،آج کل یہ فتنہ قریب قریب عام ہو رہا ہے کہ ہرجاہل وعامی محض اردو کتب اور تراجم کی مدد سے درس قرآن دینے لگا ہے، جبکہ یہ بہت ہی خطرناک ہے۔
اس سے دینی، مذہبی اور علمی اعتبار سے نوجوان نسل بہت ہی اضطراب کاشکار ہو رہی ہے، کیونکہ وہ دین و مذہب کے بارہ میں علما ¿ سے کچھ سنتے ہیں تو جدید اسکالروں سے کچھ اور،لہٰذا وہ اس کشمکش میں مبتلا ہوجاتے ہیں کہ صحیح کیا ہے اور غلط کیا؟

When our Baba Iqbal was sad and heartbroken over the destruction of Khilafat e Usmania and the balkanization of the Muslim world, he received a spiritual message from Maulana Rumi. The message has been mentioned in Iqbal's poetry and Iqbal has always called Maulana Rumi as "Peer e Rumi" and called himself as his "mureed e Hindi" !! Rumi message to Iqbal was "when new buildings have to be constructed, even the foundations of the old building are dug out so that new solid and long lasting foundations are built for the new structure that has to be constructed" ! Meaning that this destruction in the Muslim lands has a hidden khair in it also and this "destruction" is part of the divine plan to "reconstruct" the faith of Islam on pure and pristine foundations -- Khilafat ala Minhaj un Nubuwwat !!

No visit to Turkey can be complete without the hazri at the Murshid e Rumi! We respectfully paid our hazri yesterday and revived our faith with the advice of this great Baba that inshAllah, a new Ummah will rise from this apparent destruction.

یاد رہے۔۔۔۔۔! گستاخ رسول کے موضوع پر بہت ساری صیح احادیث اور آیات اور حکایات اور عمل صحابہ موجود ہے، کہ گستاخ رسول کی بس ایک سزا، سر تن سے جدا۔۔۔۔ لیکن اس کے بعد پھر بھی غامدی کا یہ بیان کچھ سمجھ نہیں آیا، جو کہ کم از کم کسی مسلمان کو تو زیب ہی نہیں دیتا۔۔۔ ویسے جاوید احمد غامدی اس سے پہلے بھی بہت ساری انکار حدیث کا ارتکاب کرتے ہوۓ، ایسی ہی باتیں کر چکے ہین،، مثلا"

اس سے پہلے جاوید احمد غامدی نے ایک پرگرام میں، حضرت امام مہدی علیہ السلام کا انکار کیا، اور مطلق انکار کیا، کہ ایسا کوئی امام نہیں آنا، اور نہ ہی صحیح احادیث میں ان کا کوئی ذکر ہے، ۔۔۔۔ جب کہ بخاری اور مسلم سمیت بہت ساری صحیح احادیث میں امام مہدی علیہ السلام کی بشارت آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی امت کو دی ہے۔۔۔

اور اسی طرح، وہ شادی میں اہم چیز نکاح کا بھی مذاق ان الفاظ میں اڑا چکے ہیں، کہ نکاح تو بس ایک اعلان ہی ہے، جو آپ محلے میں کسی جگہ بھی کھڑ ےہو کر آواز لگا سکتے، ہے، اور گٹھ جوڑ جائز ہے۔

جب کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے باقاعدہ لڑکی اور مرد کی طرف سے ولی، اور پھر نکاح میں کلمے اور خطبہ اور دعا،،،، ایک طریقہ مرحمت فرمایا ہے۔۔۔۔۔ جس کو اس طرح انتہائی غلط الفاظ میں غامدی نے بیان کیا۔

اور اسی طرج بہت ساری صحیح احادیث کے انکار پر علماء کرام کی جانب سے غامدی کو مردود اور اس دور کا فتنہ اور جاہل قرار دیا جا چکا ہے، جس کا سننا نہ صرف گناہ ہے، بلکہ اسلام مخالف دشمنوں کو مضبوط کرنے کے مترادف ہے۔۔ اسی موضوع پر جناب امام غزالی رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کا ارشاد بھی پیس کیۓ دیتا ہوں، وہ بھی بہت مفید ہے۔۔۔

آپ فرماتے ہے کہ۔ " عوام کا فرض ہے کہ ایمان اور اسلام لاکر اپنی عبادتوں یعنی (نماز روزہ) اور روزگار میں مشغول رہیں ،علم کی باتوں میں مداخلت نہ کریں۔ اس کو علماء کے حوالے کردیں۔عام شخص کا علمی سلسلہ میں حجت کرنا "زنا اور چوری" سے بھی زیادہ نقصان دہ اور خطرناک ہے، کیونکہ جو شخص دینی علوم میں بصیرت اور پختگی نہیں رکھتا وہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ اور اس کے دین کے مسائل میں بحث کرتا ہے تو بہت ممکن ہے، کہ وہ ایسی رائے قائم کرے جو کفر ہو اور اس کو اس کا احساس بھی نہ ہو کہ جو اس نے سمجھا ہے وہ کفر ہے، اس کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جو تیرنا نہ جانتا ہو اور سمندر میں کود پڑے۔“ (احیاءالعلوم، ص:63، ج:3)
